About SWAT 

What is SWAT?

The Selective Written Assessment Test, or SWAT, is a 4-hour examination experience. It occurs annually and is aimed at helping students in Years 3, 4 and 5 prepare for the Opportunity Class (OC), Selective and Scholarship exams.

For Year 4 and 5 students, the SWAT exam consists of four papers in English (Reading), Mathematics, General Ability and Writing for Years 4 and 5.

For Year 3, SWAT follows the current format of the OC Test; testing in English (Reading), Mathematics and General Ability, plus Writing.

When will SWAT be held?

SWAT will be held on Sunday 18 August 2019 at the Parkside Ballroom in the International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney).

When can I register for SWAT?

SWAT registrations open on Friday 24 May 2019.  

When is the last day to register for SWAT?

SWAT 2019 registration has been extended till midnight (EST) on Saturday 17 August 2019. We may also have availabilities for walk-ins on the day of SWAT 2019.  

How can I register for SWAT? 

SWAT registrations are online only through our website www.swatexam.com.au. You can contact our Head Office on 02 9415 1860 should you require assistance in registering for SWAT online.

How much is SWAT? 

The SWAT registration fee is $65 per student (inclusive of GST). We do not charge any additional fees and/or credit card payment surcharges.

SWAT is the most affordable 'big exam experience' for Primary school students currently available.

What is your refund policy?  

The SWAT e-ticket is non-refundable.  

Why should my child sit SWAT?

Practising sitting an examination with hundreds of other students in a large hall reduces test anxiety and improves performance when it comes to the 'real deal' (OC/Selective/Scholarship exams).

We also pride ourselves on creating expertly-developed academic content, with the SWAT papers following the current format of the Selective High School Placement Test for Year 4 and 5 students and OC Placement Test for Year 3 students.

SWAT provides parents with an accurate and detailed assessment of students' abilities and their likely performance in the actual Selective High School Placement test.

Furthermore, included in the cost of your SWAT ticket is a FREE education seminar for parents. The seminar will focus on vital information on NAPLAN, OC, Selective High School and Scholarship examinations. We will be running 2 sessions of the Education Seminar; free tickets to the first session of the Education Seminar is now SOLD OUT! 
Seats are still available for the second session of the Education Seminar, which will commence at 3:45pm.

Is SWAT similar to the Selective High School Placement Test?

Yes. SWAT papers for Year 4 and 5 students follow the current format of the Selective High School Placement Test, in order to most effectively prepare students who will be sitting for the Selective High School Placement Test in 2020 and beyond. The exam experience will also help with Scholarship exams preparation.

Is SWAT similar to the OC School Placement Test?

Yes. SWAT papers for Year 3 students follow the current format of the OC Placement Test, which includes testing in English (Reading), Mathematics and General Ability, plus additional testing in Writing in order to most effectively prepare students who will be sitting for the OC Placement Test in 2020 and beyond. The exam experience will also help with Selective High School Placement Test and Scholarship exams preparation.

Can my child register on the day of the SWAT test? 

The test venue capacity is limited and late registration will only be accepted if there is available seating on the day. If the test centre has filled to capacity, we will not accept your application. 

When should we get to the venue?

Please arrive at 1pm so that students can be seated for the test to begin at 2pm.

Is there a break?

Yes, there will be 2 supervised breaks. Students will remain in the exam hall for 1 of the 2 breaks and at approximately 3:25pm, children are permitted to leave the exam hall for a 20 minute break. Please refer to the schedule for approximate timing.

Can I sit with my child during the break?

Yes, you will be able to see your child during the 20 minute break at approximately 3:25pm. 

Will I receive my child's results?

Yes. Comprehensive individual SWAT result, which also details your child's performance relative to other students', will be emailed to you approximately 2 weeks after the SWAT examination date.  

The Venue

Where is the exam held?

SWAT will be held on Sunday 18 August 2019 at the Parkside Ballroom, in the International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney).

How do I get there?

ICC Sydney is located in central Sydney, a short 10-minute walk from either Central or Town Hall train stations, and has its own bus and light rail stops. The ICC Sydney also has two car parks, as well as many external paid car parking stations nearby.

Should I stay for the whole 4 hours?

We highly recommend all parents attend the FREE Education Seminar. There will be 2 sessions running from 1:45pm - 3:15pm (first session), which is now SOLD OUT. And the second session which will run from 3:45pm - 5:10pm. The FREE Education Seminar will be held in the room adjacent to the SWAT examination hall. All children must be picked up at the end of the examination; please allow for public transport delays/traffic when planning your trip.

Scholarships

What do the scholarships offer?

Top performers in SWAT will be offered 1 of 60 scholarships to study at North Shore Coaching College. Scholarships vary in duration for one term to four terms. They can be used to enrol your child at any of our NSW campuses.

How many scholarships are available?

Up to 60 scholarships will be offered to students in Years 3-5, based on their performance in SWAT. Additional scholarships may be offered depending on student performance.

How are scholarships awarded?

Scholarships will be awarded to the students who receive the most outstanding results in SWAT in all three year levels. 

When will scholarships be announced?

We will contact parents with scholarship offers after results have been released (approximately 2 weeks after the SWAT exam). Scholarship recipients and high achieving students will be invited to the Annual North Shore Coaching College Presentation held in November.
